Epona by Tammara Epona by Tammara

WIP if anyone is interested:[link]

Mother goddess of Earth, Epona was invoked often, but more frequently during the equinoxes to bring about smooth passage of the seasons (both physically and philosophically). Epona would be the Celtic goddess of honor during equinox ceremonies, further reinforcing that her power is found in her ability to deftly deal with transitions. As the Earth goddess, she was hailed for her grounding nature, particularly needed during times of crisis or influx in life. Always depicted upon a horse (another Celtic sign of fertility), Epona would also serve as the guardian of new life. She would welcome safe arrival of new babies as well as new crops.

The Celts believed the fox to be a guide, and was honored for its wisdom. The Celts understood the fox knows the woods intimately, and they would rely upon the fox as their guide in the spirit world.
Immaculate shapeshifters and incredibly adaptable, the fox beckons us to not make too many waves but rather, adapt to our surroundings, blend into it, and use our surroundings (and circumstances) to our advantage.

Great job...Here is a little more about her,
In Gallo-Roman religion, Epona was a protector of horses, donkeys, and mules. She was particularly a goddess of fertility, as shown by her attributes of a patera, cornucopia, ears of grain and the presence of foals in some sculptures (Reinach, 1895). And H. Hubert[1] suggested that the goddess and her horses were leaders of the soul in the after-life ride, with parallels in Rhiannon of the Mabinogion. Unusually for a Celtic deity, most of whom were associated with specific localities, the worship of Epona, "the sole Celtic divinity ultimately worshipped in Rome itself",[2] was widespread in the Roman Empire between the first and third centuries CE.

So beautiful is this painting. I love the way you bring out the emotion with a smoothness that accents the whole painting. Your details are defined and soft which makes the painting come to life. I also very much enjoy your story of the portrait in you comments. This makes the painting mean so much more. :)
